December, 3 is International Day of Disabled People

December, 3 is International Day of Disabled People. This date is an occasion to draw attention to their problems, protection of dignity, rights and well-being. The theme of the day stems from the purpose for which the day was proclaimed – full and equal respect for human rights and participation of persons with disabilities in society. This goal was set out in the world action program on persons with disabilities, adopted by the General Assembly in 1982.

According to statistics, there are about 1 billion disabled people living in the world. There are about 12 million disabled people in Russia.
