Today is World Tuberculosis Day. We talked with one of the most experienced doctors in Nizhnekamsk, the pediatric TB specialist at TB Dispensary Valentina V. Mozhnaya about the myths about tuberculosis, BCG vaccination, the Mantoux test, and about whether Pat from the “Three Comrades” Remarque would have cured today.
Last year, 69 Nizhnekamsk rezidents fell ill with tuberculosis; the incidence rate was 25 per 100 thousand people, which is slightly less than in the republic - 28.8 per 100 thousand people. Open tuberculosis was detected in 36.9% of patients; tuberculosis with lung decay was detected in 38.7% of patients. Two children were among the sick.
