According to statistics, among the children's population, the number of patients with thyroid problems is steadily growing.

One of the most common diseases the thyroid gland is the formation of nodes in the gland. To make sure that the malignant changes do not affect the nodes, a puncture biopsy of the thyroid gland is performed under the control of ultrasound.

Last year, Rinat Yafyasov, head of the first surgical Department of the  Children's Republican clinical hospital (CRCH), and Sergey Shalimov, a pediatric surgeon of the drcb, completed an internship on "Modern aspects of endocrine surgery" at the national medical research center of endocrinology in Moscow.

The acquired knowledge and skills make it possible to provide the highest quality and timely medical care to the children's population of the Republic in this direction on the basis of the CRCH, without resorting to outside help.

This procedure is minimally invasive and is performed without pain relief. Using ultrasound scanning, the surgeon monitors the movement of the needle on the screen, thereby trying to get a tissue sample.
This procedure in 90% of cases makes it possible to make an accurate diagnosis to the patient.
