The first woman in Tatarstan became pregnant and gave birth after a liver transplant

29 March 2021, Monday

A 38-year-old woman who recently underwent a liver transplant was discharged from the Perinatal Center of the Republican Clinical Hospital.

In December 2019, a team of transplantologists from the RCH of Tatarstan performed a liver transplantation. Her own organ collapsed due to autoimmune hepatitis.

After such an extensive operation, the woman was recommended to become pregnant for at least a year so that the donor organ's rejection did not begin.

In July 2020, she found out that she was expecting a baby.

"Even before the transplant, I decided to do so, if God willing, I would survive. I still didn't have any other option. And when I found out about the pregnancy, especially after 15 years of God not giving me children,  there was no question of termination. I knew that I could carry and give birth," the mother admitted.

At the end of December, she had to go to the RCH's Perinatal Center for observation and medication adjustments if it would be necessary.

And at the age of 37 weeks, the woman delivered a baby weighing 3.5 kilograms.
