Stomatitis: symptoms and causes

Stomatitis is an acute inflammation that affects tunica mucosa of mouth, including gums, tongue and lips, caused by viral or bacterial contagion, as well as a result of injury or an allergic response.

One of the main symptoms of stomatitis is mucosal ulcers with red border and white base.

Types of stomatitis:

  • bacterial stomatitis caused by streptococcus and staphylococcus
  • herpetic stomatitis, caused by herpes virus
  • reccurent oral ulceration
  • oral moniliasis (white mouth)
  • ulcerative stomatitis
  • allergic stomatitis provoked by allergic response to products or plant pollen

Doctors often prescribe for treatment anti-inflammatory and allergy medications, topical anti-infective agent for ulcers, tissue healing drugs, antibiotics.

Attention! Self-medication can lead to various complications.

Sticking to a diet is a significant point in treatment for stomatitis. Avoid spicy, sour and hot meals.
