The week of June 23-29 was declared by the Russian Ministry of Health as the "Week of Prevention of Drug Abuse" (in the frames of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26).
The psychiatrist and narcologist at the Vysokaya Gora CDH, Raisa Galimova, shared with the parents of teenagers the first signs of drug addiction:
"First of all, there is a change of mood: it suddenly changes, without the absence of external causes, and sudden attacks of aggression occur. The changes will be visible in the appearance of the teenager: pale skin, blue circles under the eyes, unnaturally dilated or narrowed pupils and skin scratches. Observe your child, how has their behavior changed? The characteristic signs of use include prolonged sleep, bouts of severe hunger, and avoiding contact with you. Their social circle and sphere of interests will begin to change.
What should you do if you notice any warning signs? Have a calm and friendly conversation with the teenager. Explain to them what is bothering you, ask them to explain what is happening. If concerns remain, contact an addiction treatment center for help. You can get professional advice there."
