For the first time, a robot-assisted gastrectomy was performed in an oncological dispensary

23 September 2025, Tuesday

The key moment was the intervention: the stomach had to be completely removed and a new esophageal-intestinal anastomosis was formed. A modified technique was used for this: the back wall of the anastomosis was formed by a linear stitching device, and the front wall was formed using a continuous seam with a special thread that prevents reverse movement. Combined with the capabilities of the robotic system, this provided something that "open" surgery cannot provide: extreme precision of movement, clear visualization, and minimal injury.
The operation was performed by a team of specialists: Tom Sharapov, head of the second thoracic department; Airat Timerzyanov, head of the operating department; Natalia Baisheva, an anesthesiologist and intensive care physician; Elena Khakimova, an anesthesiologist; Alsina Mukhametzyanova and Rushaniya Vagizova, operating nurses. Their teamwork and high professionalism became the key to a successful outcome.
