Kava filter broke into 7 pieces and got stuck in the lungs: surgeons of the Emergency Hospital named after R.S. Akchurin performed a unique operation

Patients from different cities come to our doctors for medical help. This time, a resident of Yekaterinburg asked to help her. Zhanna Borisova lived for 20 years with a kava filter, which was installed for her to capture blood clots in the venous system. Over time, the "trap" for blood clots began to collapse. And the device, which was designed to minimize the risks of thrombosis, itself began to pose a danger to the woman's health.

"The filter broke up into 7 pieces, one of the fragments "flew" into the lungs. The doctors explained to me that if parts of the kava filter are not removed now, the consequences will be dangerous for my health. Fragments of the filter could damage blood vessels, as well as clog the pulmonary artery," recalls Zhanna Borisova, a patient.
