Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko became a member of the Russian Red Cross

2 February 2026, Monday

The entry of the head of the federal department into the National Red Cross Society continues the long-standing tradition of a close alliance between the medical community and the humanitarian organization, which has its roots in the pre-revolutionary and Soviet eras. For decades, the Ministry of Health and the Russian Red Cross have jointly solved key tasks to protect the health of the nation. Many prominent medical figures, from Nikolai Pirogov and Nikolai Sklifosovsky to Nikolai Burdenko, actively participated in the work of the Society, and for hundreds of thousands of doctors, membership in it was a matter of professional honor.

The Russian Red Cross retains the status of a key partner of the Russian Ministry of Health in the implementation of socially oriented programs. These include long–term systematic work on HIV infection prevention, the development of gratuitous blood and bone marrow donation, as well as mass training of the population in first aid skills.

2026 marks the 140th anniversary of the Russian Red Cross in the Republic of Tatarstan.
