Rare operation was performed by surgeons of the Emergency Hosptal named after Akchurin

The technique was used in the hospital for the first time.

A 55-year-old patient developed a life-threatening condition due to a stone stuck in the bile duct. The outflow of bile stopped, which caused severe jaundice.

It turned out to be impossible to get the stone endoscopically: the formation (diverticula) prevented it from performing the procedure safely.

The man was waiting for a major abdominal surgery with a long recovery and healing of the postoperative wound. But the doctors found another way out.

Under X-ray control, surgeons performed a minimally invasive operation. Through a small incision, a guide was inserted into the patient, through which surgeons performed the removal of the stone with the help of instruments.

"We inserted a special instrument in the form of a loop through the ducts of the liver, grabbed a stone and removed it using a rigid tube. It was necessary to act carefully, calculating every millimeter, and that was the difficulty. This was the first time we had performed such an operation, and everything was successful. The patient was conscious all the time, under local anesthesia" - Zoya Antropova, X-ray surgeon.

The man has already been discharged and is actively on the mend.
