How medical examination saved a patient with a giant heart tumor

8 April 2026, Wednesday

The story of our 65‑year—old patient is a vivid example of how an external examination can change everything.

It all started with a routine medical examination: during a routine ECG, doctors noticed alarming cardiac arrhythmias.

The complaints were serious: heart failure, pressing pain behind the sternum, swelling of the legs, and even short-term fainting. The women were diagnosed with grade 3 hypertension (risk 4) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

The decisive moment came when the ultrasound of the heart was performed by the doctor of Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Kazan, Regina Sirenevna Pilipenko. The echocardiography revealed a minor complication — a huge benign tumor (myxoma) in the left atrium. It occupied almost his entire cavity and could cause serious complications. Acute myocardial infarction and stroke may occur. Without treatment, a patient with myxoma often dies of sudden cardiac death.

Today, the patient is preparing for surgery in a high-tech center. We sincerely wish her successful treatment and a speedy return to her usual life. Let her story inspire others not to miss medical checkups — it can really save lives!
