Mosquito net does not save: prevention of falls from windows
From June 29 to July 5, the Ministry of Health holds a Week aimed at reducing mortality from external causes. One of the most dangerous summer threats to toddlers is open windows and balconies.
Every warm season, children with severe injuries after falling from a height are admitted to the emergency department of the CRCH. And in most cases, the scenario repeats itself: adults were distracted for just a second, and the window or balcony door remained open. This short time is often enough for a child to be on the edge.
Important: a mosquito net is not a protection. It is not designed to hold the child's weight. Often, the baby leans on the net, moves the body forward, and the fasteners may not hold: the net flies out almost instantly. The child falls with her.
Please consider an open window as a source of real threat, even if "the child is nearby" and "everything is under control." Safety begins with a simple rule: an open window should not remain accessible to a child for even a minute.
