In the Naberezhnye Chelny branch of the Republican Clinical Oncological Dispensary named after Sigal underwent one of the most difficult endoscopic operations. In a 70-year-old patient, doctors removed a rectal neoplasm about 10x8 centimeters in size, preserving the organ and avoiding abdominal surgery.
Usually, with such a large tumor, patients have to remove part of the intestine. Often, treatment is accompanied by temporary removal of the stoma and long-term rehabilitation. The clinic's specialists decided to perform an organ-preserving endoscopic dissection.
The operation lasted about six hours. All this time, endoscopists have been working in the submucosal layer of the intestine, which is only a few millimeters thick.
