From July 27 to August 2, the Liver Disease Prevention Week is held, timed to coincide with the International Hepatitis Day, which is celebrated on July 28.
The liver performs hundreds of important functions: it participates in digestion, produces bile and proteins, and helps to neutralize certain harmful substances. Therefore, taking care of a child's liver health should start with daily habits.
Food
A child's diet should be varied and include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein sources, and sufficient water. Try to limit the excess of sweets, sugary drinks, fatty and fried foods, fast food and foods with a lot of salt and added sugar. Such habits help maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing fatty liver disease.
Hygiene and food safety
Hand washing before meals and after going to the toilet, safe water, thorough washing of vegetables, fruits and herbs, as well as proper heat treatment of meat and fish help reduce the risk of infections, including hepatitis A.
Movement
Daily physical activity helps a child maintain a healthy weight and metabolism. Walking, outdoor games, swimming, cycling, dancing and sports activities that the child likes are suitable.
