Breastfeeding Promotion Week is taking place in Russia from 3 to 9 August

4 August 2026, Tuesday

Breast milk is the best thing a mother can give her baby. It is safe, healthy and contains antibodies that protect the child from infections.

In the first days after birth, the baby receives yellow colostrum — thick milk. It is rich in immunoglobulins, white blood cells, and growth factors that help the intestines mature and protect against allergies.

Breast milk fully provides the baby with proteins (building materials), fats (important for the nervous system and brain), carbohydrates (energy) and minerals in an ideal form for assimilation. For breastfeeding to be successful, it is important to hold the baby to the breast in the first 30 minutes after birth, feed on demand and not take long night breaks.
