The first patients with retinopathy of prematurity have been operated in Kamsky Children's Medical Centre

Three newborns have fallen on operating table today. Their diagnosis is retinopathy of prematurity. Near term infants were born with body mass of 1,5 kilogrammes. «Premature infant is the special patient, he stays under our close monitoring from the moment of birth», - tells the ophthalmologist of CDMC Lenar Garifullin. Weekly, ones in three days, the eyes of the infants are inspected by means of the retinal camera. It allows to detect disease at early stages and to prescribe medicines’ or operative treatment in time. The retinopathy of prematurity in the active stage is the direct surgical indication.
