On the prevention of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome

23 April 2019, Tuesday

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a severe infectious disease that manifests itself in the defeat of small blood vessels of the kidneys and other organs.

The incidence and geographic distribution of HFRS in Russia takes the first place among the natural focal zoogenous infections.

How to become infected with HFRS?

The causative agent is a virus that persists in nature in a population of wild animals. In Volga Federal Region, people are mostly infected from the red-backed vole, in other cases – from mice and other species of voles. Red-backed vole is a lifelong virus carrier and its secretions are actively contaminating surrounding objects with HFRS virus.
