Kama Children's Medical Center supported world breastfeeding week

11 August 2020, Tuesday

Every year, from 1 to 7 August, the world health organization, in collaboration with UNICEF, traditionally holds world breastfeeding week.

In support of this campaign a number of events aimed at promoting breastfeeding are held annually at the Kama children's medical center in Naberezhnye Chelny. Regular conversations are organized about the benefits of breastfeeding and proper nutrition for pregnant and nursing mothers.

According to experts of the world health organization, breastfeeding contributes to the health of mothers and children. Expanding the scale of breastfeeding to almost universal levels can save more than 800 thousand children's lives every year. Breastfeeding reduces the mother's risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

It is estimated that expanding breastfeeding would prevent 20,000 maternal deaths from breast cancer each year.
