RCH doctors removed a benign tumor with hair inside a pregnant woman

12 August 2020, Wednesday

A pregnant woman from the Baltasinsky district of Tatarstan was admitted to the Republican clinical hospital with complaints of severe abdominal pain. On the MRI image, doctors found a large neoplasm that was pressing on the fetus.

The tumor was 12 centimeters in diameter and looked like a cyst that had grown on the ovary.

After a consultation of obstetricians-gynecologists and surgeons, doctors of the Department of surgery No. 2 of the RKB urgently operated on her. The doctors managed to save the pregnancy, but along with the neoplasm, they had to remove one ovary. The tumor consisted of adipose tissue and hair, as is often the case with benign neoplasms.

The next day after the operation, the pregnant woman was already sitting up, walking, and doing without painkillers. A few days ago, the expectant mother was discharged home.
