Meet Olga Yershina, a primary health worker and a lab assistant at the Children's City Hospital's Perinatal Centre's clinical and diagnostic laboratory. This laboratory tests for COVID-19. Olga Sergeevna, therefore, together with her colleagues, has been working seven days a week and through holidays since March. And recently, our heroine received the medal "For Selflessness" from the hands of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Sadykov.

Ms. Yerchina works directly in the laboratory's red zone, takes bioassays, and performs the COVID-19 pathogen's ribonucleic acid isolation. For a laboratory assistant who works with potentially infected material, there is a risk of infection. For that reason, Olga Sergeevna works in an anti-plague suit, and the room is disinfected and irradiated with ultraviolet light after the work is complete.

"With the coronavirus, we have increased security measures and, naturally, the volume of work has risen significantly. Of course, sometimes it's hard, but I love my job, and no matter how difficult it is, someone has to do it. When we started getting the first samples, it was scary because everything was new for us: accepting the material, giving out the results. Now we work as if we've been doing this all our lives, " laughs Olga Sergeevna.
