The head of the department in Nizhnekamsk told about the work at the Infectious Diseases Hospital

18 September 2020, Friday

Olga Kurakina, the Organizational and Methodological Department head at the Nizhnekamsk Central Regional Medical Hospital, who is an obstetrician-gynecologist, completed a two-week shift at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. Dr. Kurakina worked on the 6th floor, where the sorting department is located. Patients with suspected pneumonia and coronavirus from the emergency room are first sent there. After the results of tests and examinations become known, patients are sent to other floors for treatment.

"Here, the work is different, not like the operating table, but heavy patients with a therapeutic profile, so I had to remember everything and learn a lot. The support of friends who had worked in the hospital before helped a lot. The most difficult thing is to work in anti-plague suits. Still, I remembered my colleagues who worked in the same conditions, even in the terrible heat, and this gave me strength - they coped, so could I."

The doctor shared that some of the patients panicked, some were capricious. "But we understand that this disease affects a person so much: one person's blood sugar level rises, another person's blood pressure jumps. We tried to calm them down, and sometimes we had to grumble and persuade the patient to use oxygen or rollover on the stomach. People calmed down, as if softened and understood that we suffer all the inconvenience for residents of our Nizhnekamsk city to recover. I wish our patients a speedy recovery, colleagues, those who took over the shift, those who work in their native clinics and hospitals, strength and patience, and good health. Wear masks in public places and take care of yourself!"
