The Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan performed a successful operation in Russia on the heart of a baby in the womb without leaving any sutures.
The baby did not develop a heart valve, so the baby could die even without being born.
In the 32nd week of pregnancy, endovascular surgeons and ultrasound physicians of the RCH delivered a special cylinder that expanded the valve of the pulmonary artery to the unborn baby. The operation lasted 15 minutes.
The operation was successful, the left ventricle began to work well in the baby. After the birth, the unborn boy needed another surgery at the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital.
In the DRCH Cardiac Surgery Department, the newborn baby had his own pulmonary artery valve transplanted to the aorta position. A biological valve of the pulmonary artery was implanted into the position of the taken valve.
The own transplanted valve at the aortic position will grow together with the child, and the biological valve will need to be changed at a certain periodicity – 2-3 times up to 18 years of age approximately.
After all the obstacles, the baby feels good, mother and child were in the DRCH for two months, and doctors promise to discharge their patients tomorrow.
