The Republican Blood Center continues to collect plasma from donors with coronavirus infection

5 November 2020, Thursday

Today, the Republican Blood Center hosted an action of plasma donation from coronavirus donors, which is used to treat patients with COVID-19.

The participants of the donation action:

Airat Z. Farrakhov, the deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the VII convocation, an honored doctor of the Republic of Tatarstan,

Leonov Vladimir A., the Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The program of introducing and developing this method of treatment was adopted in Tatarstan in the middle of April. First, the recovered patients are tested for the presence of the virus. If two tests show a negative result in a row, after two weeks from the second test, a person's blood is examined for antibodies. And if the titer corresponds to the therapeutic dose, then the person becomes a plasma donor. To date, 246 doses of anti-COVID plasma have been prepared in the country.

The first donors were surgeons and other physicians who have had the disease. Three factors become indications for experimental treatment: the severity of the condition, the immunity specifics, and prolonged replication of the virus. Seven to ten days after the beginning of the disease, a person is cured with the help of emerging antibodies.

We thank the participants of this action for their responsiveness and kindness of heart!
