A yard ball game turned into a severe eye injury for a 5-year-old girl. The ball's impact was strong enough to cause bleeding. As a consequence, the front chamber of the eye was filled with blood. Unfortunately, most household eye injuries occur while playing in the yard, where children spend their free time without adult supervision.
The girl's parents immediately contacted the reception and diagnostic department of the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital, where she received timely and qualified assistance from ophthalmologists.
There was blood accumulation in the anterior chamber of the patient's eye for a long time. Thanks to timely treatment, the blood dissolved. Late treatment of injuries with hyphemata, or blood in the anterior chamber, often leads to such severe complications as increased intraocular pressure.
"With such patients, there is a high risk of relapse of hemorrhage. That is why we treat such patients with utmost attention. The most crucial thing in such cases is to get the child to specialists quickly; otherwise, doctors have to deal with the severe consequences of trauma, “says the head of the ophthalmology department Nailya Khabibullina.
After all therapeutic measures, discipline and control are essential. It would seem that everything is fine, the child is preparing for discharge, but suddenly, the child's careless actions can cause the bleeding to begin again.
"Treatment for such injuries is very long, until the final recovery, when all traces of blood will dissolve, and all the signs of contusion inflammation are gone," says a specialist with extensive experience Dr. Khabibullina.
