Physicians of Naberezhnye Chelny performed a unique surgical operation in order to remove the Vena Cava Filter

Physicians of the Emergency Care Hospital of Naberezhnye Chelny performed a unique complex surgical operation in order to remove the Vena Cava Filter. The Vena Cava Filter is a kind of "colander " that is installed across the largest – the inferior vena cava in order to serve as a trap for blood clots that can come out of the dilated veins of the legs and cause blockage of all the vessels of the lungs, which can lead to the death of the patient.

Vena Cava Filter was installed to   Elena, a young girl from Chelyabinsk two years ago to prevent blockage of the pulmonary artery (thromboembolism). But, unfortunately, a blood clot was formed in the Vena Cava Filter, which increased over two years, which led to unpleasant consequences. First, a blood clot formed in the Vena Cava Filter, as a result of which the last failed, and the tip of the Vena Cava Filter grew into the vessel wall. This threatened to rupture the wall of the neighboring aorta and intestines. In the future, all this could lead to infection. After two unsuccessful removal attempts, the patient contacted the Tatarstan clinic.

The physicians  of the Emergency Care Hospital represented by Marat Sharafutdinov, Umid Akhmedov and Dmitry Yadykov performed a complex surgical operation by endovascular method (without incisions) and without anesthesia.

For six hours in the X-ray Surgical Department of the Emergency Care Hospital, doctors carefully removed the thrombosed filter. Modern devices were used, as well as technologies developed within the walls of our hospital.

Here is what Elena tells about her unique case: "My dream has come true! On November 18, a complex surgical operation was performed in order to remove the Vena Cava Filter, which lasted six hours. I was without anesthesia, fully conscious, without movement, I heard and saw everything on the screen. A couple of times during the surgical operation, I had a thought that it would not work, but the wonderful doctor fought until the very last!" It should be noted that the patient has already been discharged and released home to Chelyabinsk with good health condition.
