The 57-year-old woman found out about her diagnosis at an early stage during a follow-up examination. On the MRI, physicians found a tumor of the terminal part of the biliary tracts. As a rule, such a complex surgical operation is performed only in an open way, after which the patient recovers hard and for a long time.
In the Department of Surgery #2 of the Republican Clinical Hospital, the woman was offered an alternative option – to remove the tumor after three punctures. The situation was complicated by the fact that the woman was overweight and had an obstructive jaundice.
For 8 hours, head of the Department of Surgery #2 Alexander Kirshin, surgeons Lenar Ziganshin and Stanislav Ponurkin removed part of the stomach, gall bladder, duodenum, head of the pancreas, the initial part of the jejunum – about 15 cm and lymph nodes through punctures. Now the woman feels well, but is still being observed in the hospital.
A similar surgical operation for cancer of the major duodenal papilla was previously performed in the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary. Today, complex surgical operations that were previously performed only in Moscow in Russia are performed in the Oncology Department of the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary and the Department of Surgery #2 of the Republican Clinical Hospital.
