"Light Up the Night": Tatarstan joined the All-Russian campaign in support of cancer patients and cancer prevention

27 November 2020, Friday

"A left hook, time stopped, night came and I'm completely knocked out" - this is how feels almost everyone who hears – "you have cancer".

At this moment, and then, during the treatment, you really need support and the feeling that you are not alone. It is important to understand that you can say "I have a cancer diagnosis", and in response to hear "I'm with you".

It is important to see kind eyes and feel people's warmth.

"Light Up the Night" is an All-Russian campaign aimed at supporting cancer patients and preventing cancer diseases. The initiator and author of this campaign is the Republic of Tatarstan.

The "Light Up the Night" campaign has been held for the third year and this year brought together people from 16 cities (Kazan, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd, Nizhny Tagil, Perm, Nizhnekamsk, Bugulma, Yaroslavl, Tver, Krasnoyarsk, Zheleznogorsk) in order to:

* Encourage all participants to listen to their health;

* Support those who are currently undergoing treatment.

In 2018 and 2019 in Kazan, the march "Light Up the Night" was held on the embankment, it was a procession of people with lanterns of different colors: white lanterns were carried by people who have experience of life with cancer diagnosis. These people openly said - I was able to go this way and you can.

Red lanterns were carried by people who support cancer patients: doctors, relatives, friends. Golden lanterns were in the hands of those whose loved ones got rid of cancer.

This march showed that you can live with cancer, there is a strong support nearby, and we remember those who passed away.

And of course, this procession attracted the attention of those who did not face cancer. I hope these people asked themselves the question - did I pass all the necessary examinations? What did I do to protect myself from cancer?

Due to the pandemic, this year there will not be a public event, but the organizers tried very hard and prepared a lot of interesting things:

The contest, where everyone can take part in the "March", regardless of where they are: at home, in the hospital, at work, on a walk.

The modalities for the participation are simple: you need to complete 700 steps, take a photo and post it on social networks with the hashtag.

There are informational videos where specialists, oncologists will talk about complex medical topics in simple and understandable language!

The concert of the wonderful musical group "Volga Volga", where the organizers will hold the results of the contest "Step Into Life!", and the winner will receive a prize - a photo session, and will also become the face of our campaign!

Are you facing cancer and you have something to tell?

Or maybe you are a volunteer or just want to become one?

We believe that strength comes from support.

Tell your story and support those who, despite difficult treatment, laugh, work, create and travel:

walk 700 steps, an average of a 10-minute walk at a quiet pace;

share your story of cancer patient/volunteer ;

take a bright photo;

post the story and photo, do not forget to specify the hashtag.

The jury members will choose the best story and announce the winner at the final concert with the participation of the "Volga Volga" group in Kazan.

The concert will be held on December 1 on live, which means you can see it from anywhere in our vast country!

Remember that cancer in the initial stages is almost always curable! Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
