Russia-wide, The 28 Loops action is several years old already. Its name comes from the number of loops that one needs to knit a tiny sock. These socks, hats, vests, and plaids are necessary for children born before the due date.
They are knitted from pure wool. Friction of wool fibers on a newborn's skin acts as a natural massage, which has not only warming but also stimulating, general revitalizing effect. In such condition, the baby is not in a state of forgetfulness, during which he could go to a deep sleep and forget to take a breath. And an octopus knitted from cotton is designed to calm the newborn in an incubator. Babies feel more comfortable and confident by grabbing tiny octopus’s tentacle handles, which resemble an umbilical cord in shape.
The 28 Loops movement volunteers provide warm items for the neonatology departments throughout Russia. Now people with golden hands and kind hearts are joined by Nizhnekamsk women as well. According to Elvira Dolotkazina, the head of The Women of Nizhnekamsk and Nizhnekamsk Municipal District non-government organization, women of different professions and social statuses responded to the call. And, in a short time, a lot of warm clothes for "tinkle toes" were gathered.
Today they were handed over to the Department of Pathology of Newborn and Premature Babies of the Children’s City Hospital with the Perinatal Center. The head of the department, Elena Vybornova, thanked for such attention and care for their young patients, noting that some things will be transferred to the intensive care unit, where premature infants start their journey in the fight for life and health. Warm things filled with the energy of kindness and love will certainly help them in this.
