Paramedics of the medical team #11 of the emergency medical service station of Nizhnekamsk Central District Multifunctional Hospital Ruslan Timashev and Dmitry Gerasimov are not just colleagues, but also friends who have been together for many years. This spring, when the covid-19 pandemic reached our country, the so - called "coronavirus medical teams" were organized. These guys were among the first to put on anti-plague suits and set off to help people.
"I remember when Ruslan and I were transporting a patient with oncology to Kamskiye Polyany at the very beginning. It was very unusual to be in protective suits and personal protective equipment for a long time, it was hot and hard to breathe. There was no fear, it was rather unclear, because we were faced with new working conditions, "-tells Dmitry Gerasimov.
There are a lot of patients. During the duty, which lasts for a whole day, after the medical team leaves the station, we can only return to the base at the end of the shift. There is no time for rest. During the day, paramedics serve more than 20 requests.
"We can already visually determine how severe the patient is. People suffer from the disease very hard: they suffocate, they have a prompt fatigability that does not allow them to get out of bed, shortness of breath, high fever, and a severe cough. It is difficult for patients to talk, even to the point of impaired judgment. It is a pity especially for the older persons, they already have a lot of related diseases, and then there is such a serious illness, "- tells Ruslan Timashev.
Tents that were set up near polyclinics became a veritable salvation for emergency medical workers.
The best rest, the guys admitted to us, is the opportunity to sleep. Nothing is more restorative than a good night's sleep. When we asked if they consider themselves as heroes, Ruslan and Dmitry answered:
"No, this is our job. Now, probably, everyone is a hero in their own way, everyone is trying. Heroes can be called not only medical workers, but also shop assistants, public transport workers, and teachers... Everyone, despite everything, does their job."
