Kazan State Medical University has become the most "green" university of Tatarstan.

The results of UI GreenMetric 2020 –   the world ranking of environmental sustainability of universities were announced.

Kazan State Medical University became the only university of the Republic of Tatarstan and the only medical university in Russia, which entered this ranking, taking the 688th position among universities in the world and the 34th place among universities in Russia. Altogether, the ranking includes 912 universities from 84 different countries and 51 universities from Russia.

The UI GreenMetric ranking was created in 2010 and evaluates the commitment of the world's universities to the sustainable development purposes according to six criteria:

* convenience and safety of the university's infrastructure;

* use of energy-efficient technologies;

* availability of a program for recycling waste produced by the university;

* protection of water resources;

* transport policy for reducing carbon dioxide emissions;

* education in the field of sustainable development.

The leaders of ranking 2020 became the University and Research Center Wageningen (Netherlands), University of Oxford (UK), University of Nottingham (UK). In the All-Russian competition, the best university became the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), which took 42nd place in the world ranking.
