Neurosurgeons performed a complex reconstructive intervention in the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital on a four-year-old child from Chuvashia. Now the child feels well and is discharged home.
This patient's history dates back to 2016, when the doctors of the RCCH (Chuvashia), due to an acute violation of cerebral circulation, performed an initial surgical intervention. It is worth emphasizing that the patient has a rare hereditary disease – hemophilia (type B). There were hemorrhages in the joints, muscles, and internal organs, both spontaneous and as a result of injuries. This fact significantly complicated any surgical treatment.
After surgical treatment, the small patient was observed by the hematologist and neurosurgeon doctors at the place of residence. The child was admitted to the Kazan CRCH in the summer of 2020 for the first time. After several diagnostic measures and planned hospitalizations, the neurosurgeons of the CRCH decided to operate on the skull defect by installing an implant. The special chemical composition, combined with the increased interconnected porosity, plays a crucial role in osseointegration due to the process of rapid colonization of cells with bioceramic material and the activation of the necessary biological stimuli. This, in turn, promotes bone regeneration and neovascularization of the implant.
The entire course of treatment was carried out in close cooperation with colleagues of the oncohematology department of the CRCH both before and after surgery because of the presence of a hereditary disease in the patient. Correction of coagulopathy allowed neurosurgeons to perform complicated reconstructive surgery.
It should also be noted that a great help to this patient was provided by the Lifeline charitable foundation, which assisted with the implant's purchase. The operation was successful. The child feels well and is in the family circle.
