In the CRCH, a complex operation was performed on a child burned by electricity

A patient with severe electric burns of both hands was admitted to the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital. The child was injured at home when he grabbed the bare wires of a construction tool connected to the network. The parents left the baby with the older children, but the children were distracted just for a moment, and there was trouble. From the pain shock, the child lost consciousness.

"He was taken to us by ambulance and urgently hospitalized in the second surgical department. After the examination and testing, we held a consultation with the specialists of the burn center of Nizhny Novgorod to coordinate the treatment tactics. We had to clean the burn wounds and cover them with skin from other parts of the body," said the doctor kombustiologist Vladimir Linkov.

It is worth noting that necrtectomy is a complex and meticulous operation during which doctors remove non-viable tissue. Also, the CRCH's combustologist Vladimir Mikhailovich pointed out that the additional difficulty was that with electric burns, it is impossible to determine the boundaries of the demarcation line and the boundaries tissue is dead, and where it is alive.

"To put it simply, it is important to maintain a balance during these operations - you need to remove as much tissue that has undergone necrosis as necessary to then achieve full engraftment of the transplanted skin. Our team performed all the steps in stages: first, we worked with the right brush, and then left. "This is a long process, which includes not only operations but also bandages and plaster immobilization. The limbs were placed in special splits so that there were no movements, and the skin took root well," the doctor explains.

In total, the baby spent a little more than a month in the hospital. Now the child is being prepared for discharge. Speaking about the prognosis, it is worth noting that doctors are cautiously optimistic.

"In this case, not only the skin was affected, but also the deeper-lying tissues and structures," says Vladimir Mikhailovich. "Now, it is still too early to talk about the full restoration of the functions of the limb, but the fact that the wounds have healed is good. Then the child will need a course of rehabilitation. In any case, the baby will be under our control," said Vladimir Linkov.
