Nizhnekamsk medical pioneers, who raised Nizhnekamsk medicine half a century ago, met in the city museum.
The first medical workers, chief doctors, young specialists from all medical institutions of the city and the district, and students of the nursing college were invited to the Intersection of Roads meet-up in honor of Nizhnekamsk’s 55th anniversary, which we will celebrate this year.
The holiday began with warm words and hugs – the pioneers were happy to meet with old friends and colleagues, with whom they lived side by side in barracks and provided medical care in adapted rooms. In the early 60s, there were no transport, basic amenities, equipment, or necessary medicines; doctors did not get enough sleep and spent all their time at work. But, despite this, they performed heroic actions by treating and saving people.
As the deputy head of the district executive committee, Ilnar Badretdinov noted, although last year our doctors, like the rest of the world, met with a serious challenge, Nizhnekamsk continues to be in a leading position in the healthcare system of Tatarstan. "Yes, there are problems that we are well aware of, but thanks to you, your traditions, we are adequately coping. You have laid down a level of literacy, responsibility, and attitude to patients, which is reverently observed today. You yourselves remember what difficulties you faced in those years, and all that we have today is thanks to you."
The head of the Health Department, Sergey Meryasev, recalled who he worked with as a student: "Here are the founders of the Nizhnekamsk school. For example, Lyubov Kurakina, who has devoted more than 50 years to medicine in Nizhnekamsk, is one of the city's gynecological service founders. Unfortunately, Irina Nikolaevna Kudashova, the founder of our city's otolaryngological service, who taught me a lot, has recently passed away. Thank you for what you did. Our task is to preserve and multiply what you started. I hope that in two years, we will all meet in the same composition at the Emergency Medicine Center."
Recall that the birthday of the health service of Nizhnekamsk is officially considered October 15, 1966. On this day, the first patient was admitted to the new polyclinic of the petrochemical plant. For the reporting accuracy sake, we can take another date - December 25, 1960, when the first builders arrived and medical care was provided in the 46th Building-Construction Department's health post. Among the first medical workers were the nurse Nadezhda Kleshnina and nurse assistant Rimma Vinogradova.
As a starting point, we can consider 1960, when a full-fledged Afanasovskaya district hospital was built with 25 beds, which could accommodate up to 40 patients. The doctors' working day lasted around the clock. The entire clinic was located in one office, and doctors received 60 people a day. In July 1961, the Nizhnekamsk City Council registered the first 11 newborns. In January 1962, in new barracks, the village hospital opened with 75 inpatient beds, a polyclinic, and a pharmacy.
Valentina Mikhailovna Shishonina, was the first doctor who came to the Afanasovsky hospital for the new construction of the petrochemical plant, recalled how she started working. Her work experience is 58 years and her son, Oleg Valeryevich Shishonin, works as the head of a women's consultation. The floor was given to Gamir Garifovich Ismagilov, who headed the surgical department of the CRH, and his wife Galina Ivanovna. The couple has been working on the Nizhnekamsk land since 1964. They remembered how the senior nurse of the neurological department, Tatyana Akimovna Yarema, and the head of the gynecological department of the city hospital #2, Lyubov Aleksandrovna Kurakina, both came to Nizhnekamsk in 1965.
As a sign of gratitude for their work and in memory of the meeting's joyful moments, all the medical pioneers received flowers and gifts.
