Over the past five years, the number of patients in the republic who are immune to the common therapy has almost halved.
In Tatarstan, more than half of tuberculosis patients suffer from a form of the disease with multiple drug resistance. This was stated at a press conference in the news agency "Tatar-Inform" by the chief physician of the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary Alexey Alekseev.
Patients may develop resistance to drugs if they undergo therapy improperly. They suspend the therapy and then return to it again. You can also initially get infected with a drug-resistant form of tuberculosis — such people are doubly unlucky.
