Snake bite may have serious consequences

22 April 2021, Thursday

Vipers have already been spotted on the territory of Nizhnekamsk and Nizhnekamsk district. Reptiles begin the mating season, and now they are especially dangerous. And, despite the fact that, fortunately, there were no bites by snakes this year, the journalists of "NTR 24" decided to tell the residents of Nizhnekamsk how to behave in case you were bitten by a viper or even a grass snake.

Correspondent Alexander Khalin decided to simulate the situation. According to the script, the viper bit the journalist’ hand. During the recording of the interview, the correspondent asked for help from an experienced paramedic of the NCDMH first-aid station, Sergey Makarov.

"First of all, you need to clean the wound with running water," said Sergey Makarov, "squeeze the poison out of the wound, apply a sterile bandage and immobilize a limb. No need to suck the poison out of the wound and twist a tourniquet. Be sure to call an ambulance. Or, if possible, take the patient to a medical facility on your own transport."

Sergey Makarov has repeatedly gone to see patients who were bitten by a snake. The paramedic said that most often in our breadths there are vipers. The viper bite can lead to serious consequences. As a rule, irritation, inflammation, and swelling occur after a bite. If the bite was in the neck or great vessels, then there may be a toxic shock and even a fatal outcome.

"Bites of non-venomous snakes can also cause complications, that is, an infection can enter the bite site, after which an inflammatory process can begin in the wound with soreness and irritation at the bite site. Practice shows that, as a rule, people get bites accidentally, unintentionally: during berry picking in nature, where the grass is high, near reservoirs," Sergey Makarov explained.
