27 April 2021, Tuesday

In 2021, from April 26 to May 2, the European Immunization Week is held, the main goal of which is to promote the idea that vaccination is important for the prevention of diseases.

Today, the relevance of the topic of immunization will not cause anyone to doubt. However, there is a lot of information about the benefits and harms of vaccines, among which there is often unreliable information that distorts people's perception of the need for vaccination.

As part of the upcoming European Immunization Week, the project "Hygiene Information" of the Department of General Hygiene of the Kazan State Medical University has started educational work in general education institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan on the topic of immunization. Students-volunteers of the project help students to understand the issues related to vaccines and vaccination in general. For example, what is a vaccine and how it works; how vaccines are created and their composition; how the immune system works, and why certain vaccines need to be made several times, how safe they are; and an analysis of acute situations in which vaccines are used.

Lectures on the topic "Protect yourself – protect others" have already been held for more than 1000 schoolchildren from different districts and cities of the Republic of Tatarstan, including Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk, Kukmor, Zelenodolsk, Mamadysh and Tukayevsky district.
