The Congress of Russian multiple sclerosis researchers’ committee was opened.
Today in Kazan was opened the First International Congress of the Russian multiple sclerosis researchers’ committee «Demyelinating diseases and neuroinfections, diagnostics and therapy questions». The congress lasts from 11th to 13th of September 2013 with support of Healthcare Ministry of Russian Federation, Healthcare Ministry of Tatarstan Republic, the Russian society of neurologists together with the Russian multiple sclerosis researchers committee (RMSRС).
Healthcare Minister of Tatarstan Republic A.Vafin has solemnly opened the event. Professor Evgenie Gusev has greeted the participants and visitors of the Congress. Known russian and foreign neurologists, leading experts in this area, principals of the world famous centres of multiple sclerosis take part in the Congress, including the President of the European committee of researchers of multiple sclerosis – ECTRIMS, professor Maria Trojjano (Italy), ECTRIMS vice-president– professor Montalban Xavier (Spain). More than 300 neurologists from all regions of Russian Federation, the countries of Near abroad and 60 persons from Canada, the USA, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Switzerland, France, Holland, Poland, Turkey, Iran and Syria also take part in this forum.
The history of studying of multiple sclerosis has already more than two centuries. Recently, essential progress in understanding of patterns of multiple sclerosis development, its etiology and pathogenetic mechanisms of development had been reached. Active studying of pathogenesis, in particular, participations of immune system, has led to specification of some mechanisms of pathological process and new effective methods of treatment. Therefore on this Congress the special attention will be given to early and exact differential diagnostics of MС, necessary for selection of individual therapy. In all regions of the world professional communities of researchers of multiple sclerosis have been organized, working in close cooperation with the professional organizations of neurologists – societies of neurologists. European and American committees (ECTRIMS and LACTRIMS) already have a long-term experience. The Russian committee of researchers of multiple sclerosis (RUCTRIMS), created in 2010 with support of the Russian society of neurologists, has been officially registered last year and organizes the first Congress.
Successes in treatment of MС would be impossible without working out and ubiquitous introduction of diagnostic criteria of MС. Work on the first standard diagnostic criteria of MС was headed by two famous neurologists – professor Charles Pozer (criteria of Pozer, 1985) and professor William I. MacDonald (criteria of MacDonald, 2001). Both these known neurologists repeatedly came to Russia, acted with lectures, took part in russian congresses and conferences. Therefore this Congress is working in memory of these known scientists-neurologists.
The choice of Kazan for carrying out of this Congress is not casual. The huge part of city history belongs to Kazan medical school. The Kazan neurologic school is one of leaders on studying of problem of multiple sclerosis in Russian Federation. Doubtless success in development of this direction is creation in 2007 of the Republican clinical diagnostic centre on demyelinating diseases.
