CRCH performed a unique operation to reduce intraocular pressure in a child with congenital eye pathology

Specialists performed Diode-laser transcleral cyclocoagulation, an intervention that had never been performed on children in the Republic of Tatarstan before.

The operation was performed by Alexey Rascheskov, Chief Vsiting Pediatric Ophthalmologist of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Farid Gilmanov, Head of the Ophthalmological Department of the CRCH.

The patient is a child with a hereditary developmental abnormality of the eyeball, who has been repeatedly operated on previously for retinal detachment, lens replacement, and congenital glaucoma. A few years after the previous operations, the disease made itself felt again — the intraocular pressure increased to critical values.

Classical antiglaucomatous surgeries in this case were extremely risky: they could lead to repeated retinal detachment. Therefore, the doctors decided to perform a modern, gentle laser operation without opening the eyeball.

The main advantage of this technique is the effective reduction of intraocular pressure in a short time with minimal injury. On the very next day after the intervention, the patient showed a steady improvement in his performance.

Now the child is under the dynamic supervision of ophthalmologists of the department. Doctors note that the introduction of such technologies will expand the possibilities of helping children with severe forms of glaucoma and congenital eye abnormalities.
