Naberezhnye Chelny Cancer Center began performing one of the most modern oncological procedures — liver chemoembolization

8 December 2025, Monday

Colleagues from the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary conducted a master class on minimally invasive technologies that can already change the approach to treating patients with liver and pelvic tumors.

Chemoembolization is a targeted effect on a tumor: a chemotherapy drug is delivered directly to its center, and the vessel feeding the neoplasm is blocked. The method allows you to maximize the effect of treatment and at the same time preserve healthy tissues.

Nikolay Nikolaevich Makarov, head of the surgery unit at the Naberezhnye Chelny branch, noted that the technology would be a powerful addition to existing treatment methods, and he assessed the prospects for its development in Naberezhnye Chelny as significant.:

"Our cancer center is equipped with a modern angiographic complex, and now its capabilities will be fully utilized. We have already performed 4 chemoembolizations of the liver, and both are successful. Another patient received pelvic organ treatment."

All procedures are performed through a single puncture under local anesthesia, which reduces injury and accelerates recovery.

At the same time, the technology will be applied strictly in a targeted manner — not every patient needs it.

Almaz Damirovich Khaziev, the chief physician, stressed that every case goes through a medical consultation.:

"After a comprehensive examination, an individual plan is formed, and it is at this stage that a decision is made on the expediency of chemoembolization. For those patients who are predicted to have a significant effect, the procedure is included in the routing in advance."

For Naberezhnye Chelny, the appearance of this type of treatment is an important step. There are many patients in the city who require organ-preserving, minimally invasive and effective oncological intervention. The demonstration of new technologies and the first clinical cases show: They can and should become part of daily practice so that high-tech assistance is available here, and not just in large cities.
