About the situation with acute respiratory viral infections. Press conference at Tatar-inform

2 February 2026, Monday

In the last week of January in Tatarstan, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza increased by 13%. Lyubov Avdonina, Deputy head of the Rospotrebnadzor Department for Tatarstan, told about this at a press conference in Tatar-inform.

"Today, the situation is stable, manageable and generally prosperous. Over the past week, 12,759 cases of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza have been registered. This is higher than last week's level, but not by much – by 13%," the speaker noted.

The incidence is below the epidemic threshold by 38%. An increase in ARVI cases was recorded among children under 14 years of age.

Recently, it became known about the outbreak of the Nipah virus in India. This virus is considered deadly, and there is currently no cure for it. The World Health Organization classifies it as a high-risk pathogen.

"This is not a new disease, it is well known to us. The peculiarity is that it is endemically limited and found in certain countries. There are no carriers of the virus in Russia, its development is dead–end here," said Dmitry Lopushov, chief visiting epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan.

According to the doctor, this is not the first time that outbreaks of this virus have occurred in India, but the disease has not become widespread.
