Russian Ministry of Health has announced a Week to combat the infection and spread of chronic viral hepatitis C

10 March 2026, Tuesday

Chronic viral hepatitis C is an infection that can go unnoticed for years, but modern medicine makes it completely curable in most cases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 58 million people in the world live with a chronic form of this disease, but thanks to timely diagnosis and treatment, more than 95% of patients achieve full recovery.

In Russia, including Tatarstan, the situation is under control: regular screening and affordable medications make it possible to effectively deal with the virus, reducing the risk of complications such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.

The main advantage in the fight against hepatitis C is its "quiet" symptoms. The virus infects the liver gradually, and in the early stages a person feels great. That is why awareness is becoming a powerful prevention tool. Knowing about risk factors such as non—sterile medical instruments, sharing personal hygiene products, or unprotected medical procedures in the past, everyone can get checked out on time. A blood test for HCV virus antibodies is simple, accessible, and gives an accurate result.
