International day of children with cancer

February, 15th is day of children with cancer in many countries of the word. This date has appeared in calendar for the first time in 2001 at the initiative of the International Confederation of Parents of Children with Cancer (ICCCPO).
The first International day has been led on January, 15th in Luxembourg, but later it was decided to transfer the date for a month later. Today, the day of children with cancer, is conducted in more than 40 countries under patronage of International society of children's oncologists.
The topicality of problem increases. According to world medical statistics about 200 thousand children become ill with cancer, half from them dies every year.
Timely diagnostic is considered the guarantee of successful treatment of oncologic diseases. If the disease is diagnosed at the first or second stages, treatment frequently leads to favorable end. However the tenth of cancer cases is revealed only at the third stage, and in eight percent of children the disease is diagnosed only at the fourth stage. Children are often affected with leukemia or blood cancer.
In developed countries, where physicians have the necessary diagnostic equipment, three from four children with cancer recover. In developing countries the situation is opposite.

In Russia the death rate of children from cancer gives up only to mortalities from traumas.

The active workers of the International day of children with cancer call people for help: to donate blood, to make kind donations in appropriate funds, to lead educational work.
Funds and volunteers organize various actions and holiday in many cities of Russia. Their purpose is to pay attention of society to the problem and to remind that this date is also holiday of victory of kids and adults, doctors and relatives over cancer.
Let's remind that one more date, connected with horrible disease, is the World day of struggle against cancer diseases on February, 4th.
