Surgeons of Children's Republican Clinical hospital performed a complex operation on the spleen to 12 – year-old patient who suffered from a hereditary disease-spherocytosis.
This disease causes an anomaly in the membranes of red blood cells. Healthy blood cells have a flattened shape, with a protrusion along the edges of the disc, and spherocytosis leads to the spherical shape of red blood cells, and premature destruction of these cells. The patient’s hemoglobin decreases, this leads to a lack of red blood cells and causes anemia.
