"Pay attention to your health condition, but don't panic"

10 November 2020, Tuesday

Olga Karamova, head of the Department of the Republican Medical Information and Analytical Center of Nizhnekamsk, told journalists why you should not buy medicines for the future and take antibiotics without a physician's appointment. Olga Mikhailovna combines her main job with working as a therapist in the emergency room of a covid-19 hospital and knows perfectly well what self-medication can do.

⠀"Unfortunately, Nizhnekamsk residents advise each other on medications that they took during viral infection. But the medicine that works for you may not work for another person. Therefore, we insist that a person should contact a therapist to prescribe treatment. Yes, a lot of people are sick now, there are queues in polyclinics, and on Mondays it is difficult to reach out to the registry in order to call a physician at home. The situation is similar not only in Nizhnekamsk, but also in the whole republic, the country and the world, - explained Olga Karamova. "We just have to accept it and bear it. Pay attention to your health condition, but don't panic. It is not necessary to come to the hospital offices for those who have a fever in the morning and cut off the reception lines – a person feels bad, so he also gets in the queue or can't get through, and this makes him even more overthink. Let me remind you that the hospital offices for patients with fever are open from 7.00 to 19.00, it is better to come in the late afternoon, when the flow of patients subsides. And calls are accepted from 7.00 to 15.00, if you can't reach out in the morning, you can do it after lunch. Please don't overthink it – no one medical worker wants to hurt a patient, and everyone who needs help will get it."

Olga Karamova also noted that the treatment of viral infections, whether it is normal respiratory or COVID-19, begins with antiviral drugs, but in no case with antibiotics: ⠀

"Antibiotics are prescribed by the doctor in the second place, when the patient really needs it. Therefore, it is not recommended to take antibiotics on the first day of fever. In the future, if there are complications, you will not be able to choose an antibiotic. If you have a fever or weakness, then you should not sin on covid-19. Take an antipyretic, vitamin C, drink plenty of fluids, call a therapist, and don't be too nervous."
