30 minutes to gather up, fear of heights and a call of duty: how the doctors of the CRCH come to the patients via air medical service

24 November 2020, Tuesday

How do doctors of the 2nd Surgical Department of the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital provide emergency bronchological care in remote areas of the Republic of Tatarstan using medical aviation?

"We fly often," confesses a pediatric surgeon Niyaz Amerkhanov.  "For example, the other day, we were in Al'metyevsk. It takes about an hour to fly there by helicopter. Upon arrival at the site, an ambulance meets us and takes us to the hospital. And everything is already familiar there - examinations, tests, and surgical treatment, if necessary.

It is worth mentioning once more that foreign respiratory tract bodies are a terrible and very dangerous pathology, threatening with the most severe manipulations, operations, and disabilities.

"We have become a team with the pilots already. When we just started to perform flights of medical service tasks, I was scared during take-off and landing. With time, I began to understand how to behave correctly in an aircraft's cabin - one needs to turn and bend together with the helicopter, by inertia. And then the flight will go well.

Like superheroes, doctors will come and fly to the rescue, to Al'metyevsk, to Nizhnekamsk, or Agryz, anywhere their qualified help is needed. In such "transit" conditions in recent years, doctors helped many small patients from all over Tatarstan and their lives were saved.

"I will not stop repeating," warns the doctor Amerkhanov, “parents need to remember one rule: you cannot give children under 3-4 years old small toys and food (nuts, peas), which they could breathe in. Believe me. Your child will live perfectly well without them and will avoid many troubles."
