2 March 2021, Tuesday

Resident of Nizhnekamsk Andrey Zhuk took the third place in the All-Russian competition "The Best Donor of Russia-2020". The 60-year-old pensioner gave blood more than 152 times – this is more than 68 liters of blood and not one life saved. There are 1,545 honorary donors living in Nizhnekamsk, and so far Andrey Petrovich is the only one who has received a diploma signed by the Chairman of the Council of the Russian Association of Transfusiologists and Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Eugene Zhiburt.

Andrey Petrovich told us that he started donating blood in the 80s after suffering from hemorrhagic fever. "Two months after I was ill, a letter came from Kazan asking me to donate hyperimmune plasma to transfuse it to patients with hemorrhagic fever. So I got involved, once in Kazan they even did a direct transfusion for a girl who was operated on. I gave blood once every three months, and sometimes once a month, when the mobile teams came to work with us from the blood transfusion station. Of course, I will continue to donate blood," Andrey Zhuk shared.

Today, the diploma and memorable gifts were presented to the donor by the chief physician of the Blood Center Fanis Nurgayanov, who thanked the donor: "Thank you for helping to provide our hospitals with the necessary blood and thank you for the lives saved."
