Yes! We can eliminate tuberculosis!

This is the slogan of World Tuberculosis Day, which will be on March 24. Today “Tatar-Inform” News Agency conducted press-conference dedicated to this problem.

The speakers were the following:                                                                                                                                           

  • Head of the Department of Sanitary Protection of the territory of the Department of Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing of the Republic of Tatarstan Anna G. Aleshina;
  • Deputy Chief Physician of SAHI “Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary” Nailya K. Gazizullina;
  • Deputy Chief Physician for Childhood of SAHI “Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary” Ramziya Kh. Fatykhova

In 2023, 881 tuberculosis patients were identified in the Republic of Tatarstan for the first time (971 in 2022, 912 in 2021). The territorial incidence of tuberculosis in 2023 decreased by 9,5% and amounted to 22,0 per 100 thousand population.

The mortality rate from tuberculosis in the Republic of Tatarstan in 2023 remained at the level of 2022 and amounted to 1,4 per  100 thousand population. Tuberculosis mortality in the Republic of Tatarstan is 2,7 times lower than in the Russian Federation (3,8) and 1,9 times lower than in the Volga Federal District (2,6).

For the controlled treatment of tuberculosis patients at the out-patient stage, anti-tuberculosis drugs in the amount of 55,4 million rubles were purchased and sold at the expense of the republican budget on preferential drug provision.

The speakers answered the journalists' questions and urged people to strictly adhere to the recommendations of specialists on timely diagnosis and strict fulfillment of all appointments in case of illness.
